Since 1986, Stuart Weitzman has been inspired by women who are
confident, sexy, bold — and, above all, strong.
Known for his masterfully-crafted and timelessly-elegant silhouettes, Edmundo Castillo has built his career on his lifelong passion and talent for shoe design. Castillo joined Stuart Weitzman as the Global Head of Design in 2018. His unique approach to creating shoes that are both beautiful in design and precise in construction instantly resonated with the brand's ethos of combining high fashion and high function to inspire women to shine confidently with every step.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Castillo began his career working with Donna Karan in 1989, where he remained for nine years before joining Ralph Lauren. He launched his namesake brand in 1999, which quickly rose to prominence, as his designs were worn by celebrities including Beyoncé and Kate Moss. He was appointed Creative Director of Sergio Rossi in 2004. In 2011, he turned his focus back to his eponymous line and relaunched it to great success.
"I am always inspired by the modern woman and aim to capture her essence in my designs," says Castillo. "With intentionally minimalist silhouettes combined with bold and sophisticated flourishes, my designs reflect the timeless and effortless elegance she exudes."
Castillo lives in New York City and often travels to Elda, Spain, home of the factories where Stuart Weitzman shoes are crafted.
With our meticulous dedication to detail and history of artisanal Spanish craftsmanship, we create beautiful shoes that deliver style and comfort.
We put ourselves in the shoes of the women who wear ours, all the while listening closely to give them exactly what they want exactly when they need it.
We are agile and set the trends while staying true to our iconic silhouettes. Through it all, our shoes are designed to inspire you to shine with confidence every step of the way.
We continuously strive to break the mold in everything we do and are always ready to innovate and take our fashion-forward designs one step further.
Founder Stuart Weitzman always believed that a beautiful shoe
is useless unless it feels as wonderful as it looks.
Born in 1941 on Long Island, New York, Stuart Weitzman grew up apprenticing under his father, Seymour Weitzman, at the Mr. Seymour shoe factory in Haverhill, Massachusetts. In 1986, he launched his namesake brand. Since then, the majority of Stuart Weitzman's collections have been produced in Elda, Spain, a tiny city in the Alicante province known for its artisanal shoemaking.
As one of only a few designers who was also a skilled patternmaker, it did not take long before he became known for combining fashion and function in each pair of shoes. To this day, Stuart Weitzman shoes are synonymous with style and comfort.
In 2018, Stuart retired after more than five decades in the footwear industry. Today, the Stuart Weitzman brand is part of Tapestry, a New York City-based house of brands.
